When Fear And Greed Take Over

There is an old saying on Wall Street that the market is driven by just two emotions: fear and greed. Although this is an oversimplication, it can often be true. Succumbing to these emotions can have a profound and detrimental effect on investors' portfolios and the stock market.

In the investing world, one often hears about the juxtaposition between value investing and growth investing, and although understanding these two strategies is fundamental to building a personal investment strategy, it is as important to understand the influence of fear and greed on the financial markets. There are countless books and various courses devoted to this topic. Here our goal is to demonstrate what happens when an investor gets overwhelmed by one or both of these emotions.

[论坛] 老北京以“四”为吉

老北京人四合院里的生活，与“四”有着许多不解之缘。
　　在北京地名中，带“四”字的街巷和胡同非常多，其中有东四、东四大街、西四、西四大街、四道湾胡同、四井胡同、四环胡同、四根柏胡同、东四块玉北街、东四块玉南街、西四块玉胡同、四平巷、四平园胡同、四胜胡同、四槐居、四眼井胡同、四员厅、四川营胡同等五十多个。
　　而北京四合院的格局，也是四四方方，四边对称，北边为正房，坐北朝南；两侧为东西厢房；南向(南房)为倒座房，四边相连构成四方形。
在四合院的文化生活中，与“四”更是密不可分。
　　京剧是老北京人最喜爱的表演艺术，听戏讲究听“四大名旦”(梅兰芳、程砚秋、荀慧生、尚小云)、“四小名旦”(李世芳、张君秋、毛世来、宋德珠)和“四大须生”(余叔岩、言菊朋、高庆奎、马连良)，念、唱、做、打“四功”最好。有戏迷时常要到“四大戏园”(广和楼、华乐楼、广德楼、第一舞台)过把戏瘾，评书更受北京人喜欢，讲究听连、品、赵、王四大名家(连阔如的“东汉”、品正三的“隋唐”、赵英颇的“聊斋”和王杰的“三侠五义”)的评书。
　　再说老北京人的休闲生活，也与“四”有关，看风景讲究四季赏四景：春季到郊外踏青赏花、夏季到积水潭赏荷、秋季去西山赏红叶、冬季到北海赏雪景。
老北京的民俗活动丰富多彩，多以“四”为组合。每年要过春节、元宵节、端午节、中秋节四大节日。春节多逛隆福寺、厂甸、东岳庙、白云观四大庙会。迎新春有“四贴”(门神、春联、窗花，“福”字)。

　　说起四合院内的树木，也有特定的习俗，人们种的最多的是海棠(象征荣华、富贵)、石榴(花果红似火，象征日子红火)、枣树(有“早立子”“早得子”之意)和葡萄(籽粒饱满，象征多子多孙，葡萄架下好乘凉)。
此外有个头疼脑热的病，也要到“四大药堂”(同仁堂、鹤年堂、千芝堂、庆仁堂)去抓药。
　　由此看来，在老北京人的生活中，“四”被视为是吉利数字，是一个具有概括力度、适于架构整体的数字，也是一个最具通达、蕴涵和谐之意的数字。有“四”就意味着安稳、牢固而和谐。所以过去人们对“四”从来没有什么忌讳之意，而是情有独锺。
